Hello Apple Retail!
It looks like you’re reading my CV. I’m sure you’ve read a few by now so let me break things up for you with a digital introduction.
Below are excerpts from some creative projects spanning across the worlds of photography, design, music and art.
And yes, everything was made on a Mac.*

Product Design Engineering
I’m currently working towards a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Product Design) at Swinburne.
I won’t bore you with the details but the course covers everything from engineering (duh), management and entrepreneurship, through to the fun stuff like 3D modelling, sketching, industrial design, and human centred design.

Photography
I picked up a camera to shoot a friend’s band in 2014 and haven’t put it down since. Since then I’ve travelled nationally for work, covered all kinds of events, created social media content for restaurants, and, conceptualised and produced artwork for a number of music releases.

Music
When I was 6 I started playing piano. When I was 8 I started singing. I’ve since stopped playing piano but I can still sight-read (slowly) and get halfway through a few songs from memory. Guitar, drums, sound design, audio engineering - I’ve given those things the old college try at some point too.
Now I’m the vocalist for a duo dubbed Slow Talk. I’d say our music is best described as an emotive rock band but you can be the judge of that. We’re currently working on an EP due early next year. Stay tuned.
“Slow Talk have put themselves forward as one of alt-rock’s most versatile upcoming names.”
“A perfect example of what emotionally expressive music should sound like.”
Can you guess which one’s me?
Not just a creative
Thanks for making it this far. I know you’ve got a lot of applications to get through.
But before we wrap things up, I’d like to mention that I’m not just the creative type.
I spent my youth playing the sport of lacrosse, sometimes 6 days a week, representing Victoria a few times. Now I take a bit more of a leisurely approach to the sport.
Recently, skiing has piqued my interest and I’ve taken the time to hone my skills in Australia and abroad (Japan and New Zealand).
Conversely, I’ve been known to geek out a bit too. In high school I competed in informatics competitions (programming/computer science) and, through a programming club run by myself and a friend, taught other students how to do the same.
Why am I telling you all this?
Simply, I’d like you to know me as a rounded person with diverse professional and personal interests. And because of that, I’d like to think that I can relate to the wide variety of people that pass through the apple store. And, when I can’t? Well, I can’t wait to hear their story.
Anyway, thanks again for making it this far. I hope to hear from you.
Cheers,
James Butler
